Hey Everyone,
I'm looking to swap the axles in my 01 jeep xj. I currently have a dana 35 rear and dana 30 LP front with 3.55 gears. Recently, I bought a Ford 8.8 with an ARB locker for the rear and it came with a dana 30 with ARB locker and chromoly shafts from a YJ, they are single-piece axle shafts. I'm looking for a dana 30 hp to swap in along with the YJ internals. I'm having a hard time finding a HP in my area (San Diego) but found a HP out of a 91 xj for 100$. This axle has the disconnect but I'm looking to bypass that with the single piece shaft. BTW I am going to regear both axles to 4.56 before installation. Does this seem like a good deal/ plan? just looking for some advice! Thanks in advance.
Also, this is my first post, if I did something wrong just lmk.

Sounds like a good plan to me. But you will want to use that front locker sparingly. Even the chrome molly shafts will not stand up well with all four wheels locked on the granite

Thank you for replying, I figured with the part-time 4wd, I wouldn't be using the locker on granite anyways. I think I'm mostly concerned with swapping an older axle housing with the CAD into a newer xj. If i bypass the CAD, will it be a good upgrade?

Well, it sounds like you already know what you want and it is a great idea. I elected to travel nine hours north to pick up a HP D30 so as long as you can find one I'd get it. I also paid twice that if not more. As far as the gear selection I did the same upgrade (Yukon Gear) and I will say it was a badass swap! I installed a Spartan LSD on the D30. I will make note that the gas mileage difference is noticeable after both gear swaps. It's not as important to me as it is a second vehicle as it is only used for recreation but for guys who use a primary vehicle, they may care. There is plenty of information on YouTube for the gear swap along with a few guys here that can help. I also used the chat feature on the Yukon Gear website ( yukongear.com ) to ask/chat about gear patterns. There response time is good. Good luck and don't hesitate to ask questions here. A lot of great advice here.
