Cutting front fenders on (LCG) build
 

I've cut my fenders as part of a Low Center of Gravity (LCG) build with a 3" lift (only 2" right now) and 33" tires. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/jo...-build-220091/

After my first cuts, there is still a lot of metal in the way towards the rear of the front wheel well. It won't turn far without hitting metal. I'm concerned about how much I can cut, and where on the unibody, without screwing stuff up. I know a lot of other people have done this too. I'd appreciate some pictures and help on cutting metal back on those inner front metal pinch seams and whatnot.

Did you do a search here in the build section for that I know like you that some have done it in the past. I wish I could remember the name of the fellow that had one here that gave me the idea of re-grooving 35" off road tires for my beadlock wheels. He hasn't posted in a while.

On the inner lip I just pounded it in with a sledge.

hell, there was a time where i cut my fenders up past the body line in the front and as far back as removing one of the lower mounting bolts. as for in front of the tire, go as far as you need.

but the rear fenders is another story. there is a pinch seam that if you cut past that, your rear quarters/fenders won't be attached to the floor of the unibody. but with a bit of sheet metal and a welder, you can always fix that.

You can follow the top of the old flare line.

David don't you have 35's on a Low Cog setup?

No. I have 35s on about 6.5 inches & hacked fenders. I want to lower it when I get time.
I had 33s on a 3 inch lift with trimmed flares on my old XJ. I followed the old lines of the front flare & just trimmed the rear yo the pinch seam & bumpstoped both accordingly.

I went back to cutting today. By the way, thanks for the photos of where to cut inside the front wheel well, and where to bend too. It seems to have pretty good clearance, even with only 2" of lift. My question now is if any of you have filled the void in front of the door with anything (plastic, metal, ect) to keep stuff out of there? I'd love to see what you did.

Most use pool noodles, color is all up to you.

You just shove it in there, or do you seal it up with something?

Pretty sure you just shove it in there. You can take it out if you really want to clean everything up and then put it back in. Just helps so you don't get mud waiting for you when you open your door.

Stuff the noodle in there, it will not come out.

I'm looking at just keeping the 2" lift on a LCG build. I've cut a lot of sheet metal and ordered extended rear bump stops. What parts should i look at? I'd love to see pictures and build info of other people's LCG builds.
