Default Custom DS?

So I was gonna have a shop put in a HnT SYE, but they said they don't do that and that the IRO kit will vibrate worse then my jeep does now. Sounds like a crock of crap to me. So he said an AA SYE would only be 200, sounded good to me. Then he said installed with a Quiglly custom DS it would be 900!!! I asked how much the DS was, he said 400!!! So I asked if I could just get a stock front XJ DS and have them put it in, he said yes but that it would be hard to tell if it will work with the AA SYE. My question is, is the custom one really needed? I have an 01 XJ with the 231 tcase which currently has a 1 inch drop on it. And an AW4 tranny with the D35 rear. I'm pretty sure the front shaft will work from everything I've read, but just wanna double check. Thanks

find a shop that isnt going to lie to you and go there, leave this place alone

to answer the questions:

1) the IRO HNT wont vibrate at all unless the shop screws up the install, maybe theyre concerned they are not competent enough to do what thousands of backyard/garage floor mechanics have easily done?
2) you can use a stock DS from an automatic XJ
3) after you pull it, you can just use it if you like OR replace the joints and grease it.

Oh sweet, I feel like I won't need the drive shaft lengthened at all.

i run the iro hnt and have no issues or vibration....with a stock front d-shaft.

if you do end up needing your d-shaft lengthened, go to the jy and pick one up out of a v8 grand cherokee(zj). they are two inches longer than a stock auto front d-shaft. if you need it shortened, grab one from an ax-15 eqquiped xj. they are two inches shorter than a stock auto xj front shaft......this will save you some bucks! they are $25 a d-shaft around my junkyards.

and yes, i would replace all u-joints and check the cv cup and ball for wear before installing.

i needed the shorter ax-15 d-shaft for some reason...

That's what I was thinking. I would do this myself, but seeing as how iv never used an angle grinder before, I'm not about to learn on something as important as my tcase output shaft lol

When you take the cv apart to change out those u-joints, you can visually inspect them. There is also a set of needle bearings in there. If the "ball" is worn, that part will need replaced....shop has to weld a new one on. If the "cup" is worn, you can buy a new one from napa. Its best to just check by feel to see if its bad before purchasing from the jy.

You can check by feel before you take it apart. But you really need to know what a good one feels like to check this way.

Ok cool! I would guess that if I feel it and I can feel grinding then that would be bad right?
