Default Correct pinion angle or proper shims

I finished my 8.8 swap and SYE but I do not think the pinion angle is proper.

I have a 4.5" lift and a 1" transfer case drop. There are shims, they are .75" thick not sure what degree that is. What is a good way to determine what shims I need or is this angle I have now good.

You need an angle finder to determine the angle. To answer your question, no, that is not a good angle. With an SYE, the pinion should point straight at the TC. The DS should look like its coming straight out of the pinion. You should not have a bend in the DS coming out of the pinion.

I dont even know if you will be able to shim it enough. Might have to cut and rotate the perches...

thats a bit much as you are thinking.

degree shims will get you by. if you go that rout id buy ones made of steel.

if it was my rig id cut the old perches off and get new ones to weld on. you don't realy need a angle finder. you can adjust your pinion till it looks right then weld them perches on.

on my 14 bolt i have new perches and their not welded on yet but i do have them on the axle with the u bolts tight for now. once i have the rig on the ground i can jack the pinion angle into place weld the perches and then tighten the u-bolts all the way .

in the pic the rear is all aligned for centering but the pinion angle is not set. ill do that when the rig is sitting on it and jack the pinion in to place then tack them and re check if its ok ill stick emm good.

and yes the frame is missing fish plates and top caps for the openings.

dont ask me what I was thinking, this was the first swap of this caliber I have done, and took some bad advice. I more than likely will be cutting and welding new mounts on. i think at minium i'd be needing 10 degree shims
