Considering a Stroker
So I went and picked out my new 94 4.0L motor today and will be bringing it home next week. I called my machinist and have an appt to bring the block and head in to get it worked over. I have been going back and forth about whether or not I should stroke this motor or not. It will not be a daily driver, but I plan on putting a fair number of miles on it. To be honest, I am a bit overwhelmed by the amount of info out there on this topic as well as the amount of options that you can choose for building one. I have a basic knowledge of motors and how they work, I have built a couple motors in the past, but nothing too fancy. Tractors and *****'s flat heads. Looking at the parts list for "Modified Poor Man's Stroker" is quite extensive. I don't know too many poor men who can buy all that stuff! Is it worth it to just buy a stroker kit from say RPM Machine for 895 instead? I don't want anything thats going to tear up my drive train, I just want a little more pep in the step than what you get stock. Let me know what you guys think. I guess I am just wondering if it might just bee too much of a hassle than its worth. How much more is this going to cost than a standard overhaul?

Its not that bad, help a buddy while in college take my 88 4.0L, mix it with the 4.2L crank and rods he had, basic engine overhaul kit and bam. 4.5L stroker for super cheap. To bad he lost oil pressure and collapsed a few lifters.

Yeah that would be perfect for what I need. I have looked everywhere local to me here and I cannot locate a 4.2L crank and rods anywhere. What a pain. They even seem tough to locate online! Any ideas?

RockAuto.com has 4.2L crankshafts, but there are new and have a core charge. So, the price would be x3 the cost of one off craigslist or junk yard. Also, 505 performance has a variety of them, but the price is $600-$1000.
