I am wanting to get a comp cam. I like the sound of the 'Rough Idle' what cam should I get? I like the sound of the XJ in this video:

What cam do I need for this? I have a 1998 XJ Sport 4.0l i6

It says right under the video that its a Comp 239-4 Cam. Keep in mind he has some pretty extensive work done and open headers on that XJ so just swapping cams won't give you the same sound. Also you can call Comp Cams and they can recommend/custom grind based on what you want.

That's a lot of time and money just for it to sound better. IRO's catback exhaust has the best note in my opinion.

That cam is also pretty radical for a street engine.. I wouldn't run it without higher compression and head work. You'll also need new springs and all that jazz since it has so much lift.

With an aftermarket cam you're gonna need stiffer valve springs so you don't float the valves and end up smacking a piston.

A lot also depends on what application you are looking for. Do you want a low rpm torque monster or a high revving street machine? Lobe separation angles and cam profile can make a big difference in how it runs, other than just the sound.

http://www.compcams.com/Technical/FAQ/LSAproperties.asp Here is a nice chart for deciding what you need for your specific application.

http://www.claysmithcams.com/rv-o-b-...ppet-camshaft/ I have actually been looking into one of these for my 2.5L, they are the same as the Hesco RV cams but about $100 cheaper and I think Clay Smith actually makes the ones for Hesco.

Can't you just download an app for that? Play it through your stereo?
