it will run the same. you will hear a whistle from the intake. another downside to I6s and "cold air intakes" is that the intake manifold still heats up the same, because it is on top of the exhaust manifold.
someone needs to take some IAT resistor measurements at warm idle before and after.

either that or just run a snorkel lol. That's what I did. No heat from the motor getting to that! lol. It just looks kinda redneck to some degree. But now I get cold air all the time! Just go with the cowl intake. It looks a ton better.

The difference between the earlier and later models is the hookups for things like PVC and CCV, I believe your year also may have had a warm air intake off the exhaust manifold. (i.e. warm air induction)
As far as the cold air intake thing goes, it's a fallacy.
What happens to all that "cold" air when it hits the plenum, the throttle body, and the intake manifold, all of witch are sitting right over the exhaust header and bolted up to the engine block?
The difference in ambient intake temperatures is negligible, you'll never notice the improvement between taking outside air and air from under the hood. Any gains you actually see will be from the lowered restriction.
You might want to question mileage/performance advice from guys with monster tires, 800 lb of bumpers and skids, and a roof rack with a light bar that gives them the aerodynamics of a cinderblock.
