I have some RC 3" coils that are giving out way too much now, and need some options.
They have actually ridden great prior to my bumper/winch combo (about 140lbs). I think the spring rate is 160#. I added a spacer to make up for the winch sag, but on my last wheeling trip, I was constantly hitting my bumpstops hard.
I am also running the cheap, white body shocks. They are 11" of travel, maybe this is part of my problem. I've adjusted my bumpstops accordingly, so the shocks are safe.
I have a set of 4.5" RE or Rustys coils, (black coils, bought used) that I was going to install, but the spring rate should be pretty soft as well. I don't want more height, just don't want to bottom out anymore.
Stiffer 3" coils, or better shocks? or shorter shocks? RE 3.5 coils are 240#, but I read give 4.5". Pro comp?

^^^ Thanks for the reply. This is what i was hoping to avoid. Running at near 4.5" on short arms, until they settle. Not sure what other options I have. I read pro comp coils are around 225#. I'm thinking anything around 200# should handle the weight.
The white body shocks are pretty stiff, so I don't know what else to do.

not against the acos, but they wont help w/the soft spring. i put the spacer to make up for the weight sag, but just found out, the extra weight is too much for the soft springs. so yes, i guess, the only option is stiffer spring, or shorter shocks.
Shorter shocks? What'll that do?
I would think you'd want different valving or stiffer springs. Shortening them just sounds like you'll be using the shocks as bumps, and that can't be conducive to them having a long life..

You need a stiffer spring but go with a quality spring like Re or BDS. RC is soft and will sag Procomp is garbage I worked at 4wheel parts for a few years I never ran any of their house products
