To clock or not to clock the transfer case on the xj?

pros?

cons?

If you are doing a flat belly you really should. I did not. Bought the jig but never took the time. I raised the trans mount 1/2". And the transfer case hangs down a 1/4" below my flat belly cross member.

Shame on me. I need to take the time and clock it.

Shame on me for not asking this first...does anyone have a jig they are not using?

I'm planning on a flat belly...both personally and transportation wise, at least I can succeed at one.

I choose to be chunky I'm prepping:gunsmilie: and with that I need more clearance for my vehicle..:001_unsure:

I did it by myself on a Saturday. Drop the tcase, make a template, drill new holes and reinstall. If youre doing a flat belly I dont see why you wouldnt clock it

I wish I would have. I built a big belly skid off my Clayton crossmeber and really havent hit it on much. My longarms take most of the beating.

hmm. you must not be doing it right

The edges have some love, but I havent drug it across anything like I thought I would. My frame rails, link mounts, and arms get hit way more often.

Could someone please educate me?

Clocking, does this just get the transfer a case a little more out of the way for clearance?

What would you need a jog for?

Sorry for my ignorance, I have never heard of this before.

Clocking the t case rotates it up towards the floor pan to allow for a flat belly skid plate.

You use a jig to accurately mark new holes for the transfercase to mount to.

How much more clearance dies clocking it usually give?

Does this add any more strain on the drive shafts or anything?

Usually moves the case 10-12* on an XJ. Not sure of a numerical measurement off the top of my head, enough so that it doesn't hang down below the frame rail.

Not enough to matter, but it could on another vehicle or if you did an extreme clock.

Ok, those were a bunch of Pros. Now for a couple of Cons. If there isn't enough space left between the t-case and the floor boards the t-case will hit against the floor boards. Hear is another Con, you will be increasing the angle of your front drive shaft. Ok, but I would still do it. I have my atlas clocked up so it is quite tight.

What is the fix for the case shift linkage? Just asking because this is something that I would like to do when I pull my case to do the SYE. Knock it all out at one time. Thanks

haven't figured that one out yet. mine came loose so I took it off and just been manual shifting it until I build my own linkage lol. haven't looked, but if theres any adjustability at all you should be able to make the stock stuff work
