the joint at the transfer case moves up and down when i push on it on the rear shaft which is a front drive shaft as well doesnt do it

 

i think i figured it out! i removed the front drive shaft and put the rear one in and drove around with just the front shaft in from the rear and it didnt make any chunking noise so i think ive determined it to be the little ball joint in the drive shaft. can you replace just that ball or is that a new shaft id have to buy

 

 

probably easier to get a whole new shaft. I was at the junkyard today looking for a zj shaft and came up with about 15-20 xj ones. no joke, by the pile

 

hey its the opposite here tons of zj's none of xjs and if there is an xj its like a 80s model

 

thats what it was bad drive shaft got a new one today and its perfect!
