I have been saving up for an aussie locker and the parts for a gear change, but I have come across a local guy with a brand new factory limited slip. He has everything needed to convert for $100. What are the pro's and cons? Obviously price is a pro, but is there a glaring difference between the factory unit and a lunchbox?

Yes. there will be a big difference. Think of it exactly how its called. one will limit slip and one will have the ability to lock. If you are only planning on mild wheeling, and majority street driving it may not be a bad idea. But if your gonna wheel it, do the aussie.

All makes sense. I thought of maybe throwing the limited slip in for the winter, but I do not have any experience with setting up a differential. Looks like I will just have to keep saving up. I would like to re-gear and lock both difs before moving up to larger tires and then I can just have it all installed at not have to pay the shop multiple times.
the limited slip will cost you more in the end anyway if you are wanting to do it right now, unless he is going to set your gears up for free. If youre going to wait and do it with gears, whats another $100 in the whole scheme of gears/install anyway to get the locker?
