but for the op. 29spline 8.25 is plenty
WRONG!

The stock carrier or posi is a WEAK POS.
The gear set is not really stronger, yes its ever sl slightly larger. The axles are necked down C-clip design. And the tubes regularly spin in the housing.

I don't call 3.5 hours in my area. my pricing is based on what I find on Craigslist, because of the fact that they are hard to find in these yards

Its really bothersome to me, for some reason, that all this opinion turns to interweb fact....

Sorry to derail a thread some, but its hard for me to sit back and watch opinion be posted as fact. I deal in facts and Actual professional Experience. And to know that some common joe might read these opinions and they they are just the way it is (Fact) bugs me.

d44 shaft necks down to 1.23 , 8.8 necks down to 1.3 . tubes are larger, brakes are better. ring gear is larger. 8.8 flange is MUCH better and its pretty easy to tell the first time you grind the pinion on a rock. sure, the stock carrier may not be the strongest, but other carriers are available if youre actually worried about it and a better locker replaces it anyways. and the tubes are easily fixed with 5 minutes and a welder.

sure seems like the most cost effective solution for the OP.
the 4.10 gears will be cut with 27 splines, a 29 spline wont fit.
