Its the power gains that make it a poor choice for a swap.

Unless you somehow find a 5.9l somewhere in there.

Swapping in a WJ V8 isnt worth it the 4.7's have head gasket issues, not to mention the hydro cooling fan that usually runs $800 alone. IF you want to keep a mopar engine in it look for a hemi , or do a GM LS series

So an 00 LS1 with tranny and transfer case for $1800 would fit without having to do body mods? Id rather not have to cut the hood like ^^ that guy.

If I can get an 02 v8 with 60000 miles for $500, you guys don't think that it would be easier to do and cheaper? What am I looking into a tranny for the v8 for? Or if I can get a new l6 to swap for $300 what would be better? Opinions?

meh, i wouldnt waste time with a 4.7. the 5.2 would be much less complex thus maybe easier to do. i know people dont think the power gains are good, which is true when looking at horsepower. but look at torque, 300 lb/ft sounds pretty good to me!

the ls1 intake is different than whats on the 5.3 he used. the ls1 intake will clear. if i remember right even with the ls1 you have to make a custom alternator bracket to lower that down a little as well

If I were to be a rebel.. and ignore everything I just read. Would I be known as the idiot who Did it. Or would it be worth it in the long run to be able to put 150000 more miles on the jeep? I am thinking cost. And the 4.7 would be the best route for that.. to me anyways..

if your thinking cost wouldnt it be best to just throw another 4.0 in it? youd just need a motor. not a motor and trans. plus as stated above the 4.7 has its fair share of problems. i see alot of grand cherokees on craigslist for cheap cause it has a bad 4.7 in it

^ that is why I don't have a WJ anymore. The hydrofan went out. It overheated on my wife the head gasket blew. Had it towed home started it up the next day and it had a rod knock from hell. So it went in Craigslist .

X2, if cost is the issue just put another 4.0 in it instead. And again, the 4.7's are JUNK.

4.7L is not a bad engine, and the 5.2L can be beefed up....after all the 318(5.2L) was modded into a 343cu and a 335cu all the time by race car enthusiast because they were plentiful and easy to build up. I have a couple V8 ZJ's and I just picked up a 88 comanche which is going to get the upgrade to the 5.2L. There is a nice supercharger kit that fits this engine as well.
