Default Check Engine Light

I recently installed a cold air intake on my '99 cherokee sport. I started it up today and the check engine light went on. Any ideas as to why this would go on? I drove the car plenty of times before with the intake installed and the light never went on, but for some reason it went on this morning.

Go to the local parts store(Auto Zon, Advance, etc) and have them read the code. Bring the code back and we can help you. How do you even know its related to the CAI?

I am not certain that it's related to the CAI but I have never had any problems or lights go on prior to the installation of the CAI.

Most likely just coincidence. You can buy a cheap code reader if you want one for the future for ~$40. Or just go to the local parts shop and have them read it. The folks on here have definitely seen it before so you should get plenty of help fixing the problem.

Most auto zones are not allowed to erase the codes once they are read.

If you can swing it best to buy a code reader that can erase the codes. Got rid of my idiot light. It was on from a one time missfire.

You can also just remove the positive battery cable from the battery and touch it to the negative post. It will erase the codes and reset everything. You will lose the time on you clock and radio presets, though, but it's free, and you don't need a reader.
