This site is killing my phone so I can't search whether this topic has been made, but here is a link to a walk through on how to bypass the archaic CCV system and add a more efficient (read: working) PCV system:

I'll be doing this tomorrow. I feel like my idle should probably be around 700-800rpm warm (I'm between 500-550 for sure) and a clogged ccv system may be the cause of my rough idles, and is almost definitely the cause of the wee bit of oil in my air box. I'll let you guys know for sure how this effects my XJ and you can go from there!

Why not just replace the elbows with factory parts and clean the throttle body which is likely the cause of your low idle? Yes it's an old design but in good shape it works perfectly.

You don't have a year posted for yours, depending on the year there is a mod for the flutes in the valve cover that will help the oil in the air box. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/cr...x-tips-153657/, #25 I did this when I replaced the leaking valve cover gasket and I also replaced the dry rotted hoses between the air cleaner box and valve cover elbows. The cleaning of the throttle body was also one of the first things I did once I got it through safety inspection.
