Cb antenna warning. High swr reading. Can't tune
Alright. So I mounted my cb whip above the rear taillight. But now. I'm getting a constant antenna warning and a super high swr reading... and I can't get it to tune... could it be that the mount is aluminum and isn't grounding correctly? Other possibilities?

you won't get a proper ground with aluminum.
you need to ground it to the body.
make sure the nylon washers are in place properly.
try removing the spring, i think those just make the antenna swing around too much.
what size is your antenna?

Its a five footer or so. Its metal. And ill check grounds. And if I remove the spring the signal gets worse and swr gets higher

def check all grounds. and fyi your coil has to be a min of 18" above the roof. your coil is just about surrounded by metal. you def have to much reflection.
i would atleast get the coil above the top of the tail light about 6-10"

Is that antenna mounted to the fiberglass rear hatch? If so, it's not grounding unless you ran a ground wire.
NM, I just got a better look at it. When I first glanced at it, it looked like it was on the hatch, now it looks like it's on the side. That's what I get for getting on here when I just get home from working all day in the woods. Too tired to see straight.

OEJ is correct, the coil is WAY to close to metal. you could get a stainless mast and mount it under the coil. The coil so close to the body of the car it totally destroys the Q of the coil, its almost like a short to ground! It would be best to get the coil above the roof line. I have 2 million miles of mobile ham radio experience for what ever that's worth. W8KFM

With the metal whip i've tried to use a ground wire and it did nothing... and I've tried using a 5 foot firestik and I still got the warning
