I am subscribing as I plan on getting a C.B. soon and I hope you come up with a solution to your issue, in case I run into trouble setting mine up.

There is a plastic (nylon) washer in now right? Were you in a wide open area when you took readings?

Is it a new spring? The wire through the middle has to have continuity from end to end through the spring to bypass and eliminate the spring influences. And from what I see it is not an old style large "6 inch spring". I am running into SWR problems right now because of this.

Yes it is a brand new spring from Firestik. I think I'm going to take the spring out and see what happens.

Please let us know what you get? I know my problems are because mine is a full whip with a short spring.

I think you mentioned that you wrapped in a figure 8 and tied it in the middle. That may be your problem. Had the same problem with my setup. You need to have all the doors closed, etc. Unwrap that figure 8 and let the extra hang out the door so its all straight. If you get a better reading, that's your problem. If not, try testing without the spring or with a grounding wire directly from the antenna to a ground. That was my problem The mount (at least for mine) didn't ground very well against the painted sheet metal. After all that, you should be golden man!
