Cant stop my XJ
I have a 1994 XJ with a 4.5" lift. Since I went to a 33" tire I find it very difficult to stop. Have already run into the back of two vehicles. I really have to keep a greater distance between cars in front of me. I didn't have this problem after the lift just after adding the larger tires. Is there a remedy for this. I have bleed the brakes several times and it's still the same. Pads and shoes are very good. Any suggestions???? Thanks

lol! You've already wrecked it twice!?
I think I would have done something about it sooner.
Here, read this.

Cheap, simple and effective. This is the first modification I make on all my Jeeps if it has a single diaphram booster. Trust me, it makes a HUGE difference.

Thanks sounds like just what I need. Dont have the time to search for a used one so I'll have to look for new or rebuilt. Can I just order a later model booster and master cyl. from an auto parts store? Thanks again

I got rear disk brakes on the XJ when the Ford 8.8 mod was done & it stops better than it ever did, even with the 33s. I must admit I was pretty skeptical that simply adding disk brakes would make a difference but I have proven myself wrong. I do have a dual diaphram booster from a '95 XJ waiting in the wings to be put in there for even better stopping power.
There is a write-up somewhere that says the dual booster from a '95 XJ will fit some older XJs with very little (if any) modification due to the length & design of the pedal rod. I think it was on Go Jeep's site. I dunno which years fit what, but for my '92 the best year would be a '95. There are also write-ups on NAXJA about the WJ booster mod as well.

i installed a WJ booster and master cylinder. best mod i have ever done. it brakes so much fast now. all the write ups i read said the rod connecting to the brake pedal needed mods, mine didnt except just file out the hole in the rod a bit since it was a hair to small. took all of about and hour to complete and bleed brakes and master

Disc brakes are always going to be more effecient. If you want the most out of your brakes, discs all around will be the best.
Couple that with the better MC, and you have an awesome system.

I would start with new pads rotors and especially calipers. I got a rotor and pad package by power stop and new calipers from napa (25 or less a piece) and it made a HUGE difference. Not sure if it which part helped the most, but I'm pretty happy even on 35's.
My rear brakes are a totally different story......

Translation of OP's post: "I put a lift and some 33s on my Jeep and I was surprised that it did not stop as easy as it used to."
