Im thinking about getting a 4.5" lift on my xj and i keep hearing talk about how the dana 35 wont hold up with 32" tires. Has anyone done this and had problems or am i just hearing a lot of crap?
tires themselves won't snap it
if go easy on the gas and don't lock it, you should be fine
just remember it was designed as a cheap street use axle, and works fine it that use for over 300K miles
if you are going to do serious rocks or mud, you will need to upgrade eventually, just like the tires and suspension

All i basically do is field hop and mudding not really crawling so i should probably be fine right?

and i run 35s on a built 30 spline alloyed dana 44 front and built 35 spline alloyed dana 60 rear and broken both of them over a dozen times collectively. not everyone wheels the same.

i had 33s on my 99 for 3 yrs and daily drove it and wheeled it every weekend. i beat that jeep hard too. never once had an issue out of the 35, the 30 gave me multiple issues. a buddy of mine had a 91 on 31s and broke 4 sets of spider gears in 1 yr driving it on the road wheeling with me every weekend.
My jeep gets trailered dirt to dirt it's not street legal I'm not beatin it when I go out wheel. Everyone wheels different but it has stocks gears in it, my **** ain't gonna be no pavement pounder
Ahhh that makes since... Sorry after being in southern Cali and the high side of Atlanta for soo long I'm used to custom 4x4s being road princesses.. Can't stand that crap.. I would assume hauling it and keeping it off the road helps minimize the wear that a DD/weekend toy would have?

Mainly depends on how u drive it but I know a guy that's running 38's on a 35
I have a dana 35 front on 33's and I had to replace ball joints but they were old anyway so ya
After u do that any parts that were less than 50% life u may end up fixing but nothing to hard
