Building to handle 35s
I want to run 35s or 36s and it be bullet proof. My current axels are a hp Dana 30 cad and a rear Dana 44. I was going to truss my 30 and run chromo axles. But for that price Couldnt I swap in a d44/9 combo and run lockers. Now all labor would be don't by me. I have rk 3link right now ut if I go full width would I need to change that or just the mounts on the axle since they have to be changed anyway?

if you start swaping around axles 44/9 or 60's, even if you do all the labor..dont forget about new gears, rebuilding brakes, drive shafts...and dont forget about having to buy new rims. adding the proper brackets to make it work will bee the same with what ever axle you choose other than stock.
all that said...truss and axles sounds cheap...keep in mind, with alot of skinny pedal and enough gear..you can break any combo.

that center axle disconnect is a very strong axle shaft, however, it is the tiny 260 u-joints that are very weak.
and if you have the 35 in the back, it is also weak.
i wouldn't run 36's on those, but i guess can be done without breaking too often if left totally open.
as soon as you lock either, you are guaranteed to break almost as soon as you put it in 4wd. especially when you try to reverse.
i have ran 36's on stock axles (d30 cad, d44) both locked, and even tho my rear has held up just fine, i broke d30 u-joints more times than enough on just one trail alone.
i have since picked up a set of d44/9" axles from a 78 bronco.
