On-Board Air
Just found this small air compressor in my basement. It went to a diesel truck air horn kit.It says it'll pull 110psi and It feels pretty solid so I want to mount it somewhere to air my tires back up. Heres some crappy cell phone pics of the compressor.

FitchVA from some of the various forums has a pretty clean set up, he cut out the cubby and mounted it in there than tucked a small tank up in front of the gas tank, his site doesnt wanna work for me right now and i cant find the write up on jeepforum but if you search hard enough im sure you will find it, i have his book so ill look through it and see if there are pictures, if so ill throw some up

I dont need a write up i know how to install. Im thinking of putting it behind my air box, run it to a small tank in the cargo area and just have a hose to fill the tires.

its will work without a tank, but it will work like those little suitcase compressors that plug into your lighter outlet and take for ever to fill up a small tire, last time i used one of those to fill up a tire on my civic it took approximately 20min to add 15PSI to a small little 13" civic tire. Running it on a regular basis would lead to a short life, those pumps are ment to be used with a tank so i would suggest doing so, how and where you mount is all up to you

So whats wrong with this it makes good pressure just wont fill up the cubic feet as fast??? So same question as above
"What duty cycle and CFM should I look for when shopping for on board air compressors??

a 2.5 to 5 gallon tank would work well with your compressor. The tank makes up for the low duty cycle capacity. I'm running a 100% duty cycle compressor with a 2.5 gal. It will fill tires pretty quick, but still isn't enough to run air tools for more than a minute at a time...
Mine is 1.66 cfm @ 0 psi. constant duty. I can fill my tank from empty in about 3 minutes, or from 110psi to 150psi in 1 minute.
Higher flow + higher duty cycle = better

the higher the duty cycle the better, but the higher the duty cycle the higher the price of the compressor. The tank allows the compressor to take short breaks that way it doesnt burn up.

Really? Is this thing I got even a good use. Is it going to take freaking forever to fill up my 31s? What about when i go 33x12s here soon? Will it still take forever with a 3 gallon tank?
