Default On-Board Air

Just found this small air compressor in my basement. It went to a diesel truck air horn kit.It says it'll pull 110psi and It feels pretty solid so I want to mount it somewhere to air my tires back up. Heres some crappy cell phone pics of the compressor.

Get yourself a air tank to go along with it and you got a sweet little setup

Plenty of pressure but with that duty cycle and CFM it could take a while to pump up 4 tires.

I tank is what i thought. It should be enough to fill up a little tank for tires. Maybe like a small oxygen tank

I dont need a write up i know how to install. Im thinking of putting it behind my air box, run it to a small tank in the cargo area and just have a hose to fill the tires.

its will work without a tank, but it will work like those little suitcase compressors that plug into your lighter outlet and take for ever to fill up a small tire, last time i used one of those to fill up a tire on my civic it took approximately 20min to add 15PSI to a small little 13" civic tire. Running it on a regular basis would lead to a short life, those pumps are ment to be used with a tank so i would suggest doing so, how and where you mount is all up to you

What duty cycle should I look for when shopping for on board air compressors?

a 2.5 to 5 gallon tank would work well with your compressor. The tank makes up for the low duty cycle capacity. I'm running a 100% duty cycle compressor with a 2.5 gal. It will fill tires pretty quick, but still isn't enough to run air tools for more than a minute at a time...

Mine is 1.66 cfm @ 0 psi. constant duty. I can fill my tank from empty in about 3 minutes, or from 110psi to 150psi in 1 minute.

Higher flow + higher duty cycle = better

the higher the duty cycle the better, but the higher the duty cycle the higher the price of the compressor. The tank allows the compressor to take short breaks that way it doesnt burn up.

I have a superflow mv50. It fills a 33x14 from 12 psi to 25 in about 2-3 minutes.

Really? Is this thing I got even a good use. Is it going to take freaking forever to fill up my 31s? What about when i go 33x12s here soon? Will it still take forever with a 3 gallon tank?
