^ THIS.
I dont have either yet, BUT from watching some friends who have lockers get stuck with no way out makes me think i'm going to be looking for a good bumper and winch first...Recovery gear first, then traction aids I would say.

Locker(s) definitely. Just think, bigger tires may mean you would've had more to dig out. I think in the long run you'll find lockers much more beneficial. It pretty much seems to be the census here too lol. As for selectable and auto, look at what you can afford. Having something is better than nothing. I'm not too familiar with their product (read: never used it) but I know Powertraxx has a reasonably priced auto for about $480. Add about another $800 if you're looking at ARB air lockers.

3 Pages of Lockers.... i think we know what the crowd likes but I'd put MY $$ into a winch cause i hate all the heaving and pulling on a High Lift. Too old for that. I wanna hit the button and roll out like a fat chick fallen off the couch.

You know that difference in traction you get from going from 2wd to 4wd? Well that's what it's like having a locker, and pulling it into 4wd is adding that much more :-)

So now that I'm set on a locker I have to decide were to put it; front or back? I'm doing an auto locker by the way. It seems to make more sense, as far as off-road improvement, to put it in the front as it will be pulling rather than pushing and when I'm in 2wd I won't know its there.
When turning in AWD on pavement, will it lock up even if the wheels aren't spinning? Like I said earlier in the thread, I sometimes use AWD in the winter on nasty roads. However, I also pull a horse trailer with two horses every now and then and having the jeep in AWD gives it better power when hauling this load (power may not be the right word but it is easier on the engine in the long run and the jeep pulls better). Would having an auto locker in the front on dry pavement, with the jeep in AWD be a bad thing?
Input and personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

I'm locking at a powertrax auto locker. Good locker, bad locker, reasons for or against?

Lockers but keep in mind, lockers do help ALOT but just because you have them doesn't mean you still can't get stuck. They may help but I'm not sure if they would have gotten you out of that. I don't have lockers but my dad who is on 35's and locked front and rear with Detroit lockers has been stuck like you multiple times. Just fell into a mud hole and couldn't get out. Ice and mud are no fun. If you don't wanna be stuck like that get a winch IMO. Like I said big tires and lockers don't always get you out but a winch will!

I drive a lot in the snow in the mountains in Colorado and chose to put a detroit locker in the front first. I did so because I knew that I could always drive in 2wd and not have the locker affect anything. I am from Michigan and have spent a lot of time on icy roads and don't see a great reason to leave my vehicle in awd. My cherokee "pushes" noticeably more now in 4wd with the locker in than it did before. You can get around fine, but it is smart to slow down a bit. This doesn't bother me because I don't put it in 4 wheel unless I actually need it like on steep hills or 6" plus of snow. If you are going to drive in full time 4wd put a rear locker in. You will spin your rear wheels, but that is no real big deal. Just be easy on the gas around corners. All that being said, I love my front locker. With my sway bars disconnected and the articulation of the front end along with the extra weight of the engine up front, the front locker is amazing.
