Default Best traction for snow and ice?

I live in MN and want the best traction while driving... I only have 235s now, would it help to air down?

HELP

What kind of tires are you running? That's one of the more important things you need to worry about..proper tread makes a world of difference

235s are fine for snow. Typically you want a skinny tire that doesn't float on top of snow like a wider tire would. Just run 30 psi in an all-terrain tire and you should be fine.

Yes on the narrow tires. Yes on the tread.

I've been using BFG A/T tires for the past 10 years. They aren't cheap but they work for me. They are snow rated (snowflake on sidewall). If you do a lot of highway driving, they can last a long time - 80,000-90,000 miles is possible. I run 235/75R15 on my stock 01 XJ and 30x9.5x15 on my mildly lifted 97 XJ.

there are many types of wrangler radials. which ones are they, GSA, ATS-A, SR-A...
if you want the best traction for snow tires, you need a specific winter tire, they work best in temps below 7c.

I had General Grabber AT2s that were beastly in snow and ice. Cooper AT3s aren't a bad choice either.

i can't be bothered to look in photo albums, but good luck.
nokian hakkapeliitta probably are the best winter tire, hands down, but not for most people. they are kind of pricey too. but i do love em, would be great on a soob.

i've never used winter tires on my jeeps, got a set on my dog transporter mini van, but don't even know what kind they are. they work great tho. but as with any winter specific tire, you can't really go wrong.

and no, all season tires are not winter tires.

OneWheel are studded tires outright banned or only allowed at certain times of the year. In Ohio they are not allowed most of the time but are allowed from something like November through February. My Nokian Vativva A/Ts have been great for me summer, winter and what limited wheeling I get to do. Grismer no longer carries them so they may have been discontinued. Since no one else has directly mentioned it, no, airing down is bad in snow.

I live in WI and just put on a set of General Grabber AT2s a month ago since I read so many reviews about them. So far they give me a ton of traction. I tried to whip the rear around as I left my driveway and it just hooked up big time. We'll see if they are just as good when I start crossing the St. Croix river once it freezes over and covered with deep snow.
