I forgot to add on the JK locker. You are pretty much limited to JK gears. The ring gear for a JK uses a half inch ring gear bolt. The regular 44 uses a 3/8 ring gear bolt. You can go to JK gears, but not the other way

Whoops, sorry about that. I thought you meant driveshaft U joints. Ordering RCVs soon for the front axle. Even more fuzzy in the tight turns

But anyway, this was not really a serious answer to the best axle swap for XJ. These are the best axles period. But housing are 5000$ each and 3rd members are another 5000+ each. If you dont know what to buy, you should not be in the market for 20,000$+ in axles for a jeep Cherokee

Post is several years old. Especially the comment you are referring to.

The best axles to swap in is contingent on what your plans are for the jeep. For 33s and moderate trail use - can't beat a beefed up D30 and an 8.8 out of an Explorer. I'm into both of my axles for less than $1000.
You want the best axle that will handle ANYTHING, then get a D60 and Sterling 10.5 out of a 05+ Super Duty. You'll be closer to $10,000 (axles, parts, and associated parts), but they should handle anything you throw at them.
