Default Belt slipping

Ok guys, I'm new to the XJ just got it last weekend, took It threw a little mud and water to test 4x4 and the belt started slipping bad, looked like t was where it touches the fan pulley on the smooth side, it kept squalling the next couple days so I bought a new belg from NAPA, this helped but did not completely fix the problem, any idea how I can do this? It drives me insane when a belt is slipping

Tighten it until you think it is good... Then tighten it more. I replaced mine and still had some squeaking, thought it was a pulley or bad bearings. Turns out it just needed to be tighter than I would have ever thought.

Clean the pulleys really well, replace with a new belt, and tension it properly. I bet it won't slip anymore.

Loosen the belt again spin your pulleys by hand listen for any sqeeking or dry sounding noise. Replace if you notice anything abnormal. Like others have said you should be fine if you just apply more tension.

That is also a good idea. I just couldn't believe how tight mine actually had to be. Seemed excessive to me at the time.

I have 2001 when you think it is tight tighten it some more that gets rid of it. When I got it and when I changed belt had to tighten it if worried just do a little at a time until gone.

You may need to clean the belts and put some belt dressing on them. If the belts are glazed you have to way over tighten to stop them from squealing.

They do have to be incredibly tight.

There are fan belt dressings that can be purchased at auto parts stores, but one of the best is to take a bar of soap and rub it on the fan belt. It will stop most fan belt squealing, unless your belt is actually not tight enough.
The fan belt should have between 1/2 inch and an inch of slack when adjusted.

How does soap help? I'll have to try that
