AX15 Slave Upgrade With AX5 Parts?
I’ve got an AX15 in my 1990 Cherokee, with the internal slave cylinder. I want to switch to an external setup, and I can’t seem to Find anyone who’s done exactly what I have in mind..
I bought a 1996 Cherokee a few weeks ago for parts. I pulled the tranny, and after some confusion found that I had an AX5 with an external setup. It seemed that everything from the gearbox forward was the same, (with exception of the pilot size) until today, when I pulled the clutch from the 96. The back of the disc revealed a longer spline section (about 3/8") than the one from the 90.
If anyone has done this swap, or can help me to calculate the size / travel that I will need to account for, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I can post any pictures you need. Thanks in advance.

well, since nobody seems to know anything about this, i said FTW and got to work. i pulled the bellhousings, as well as the front bearing retainers, and all seems well. i need to pick up some liquid gasket, but i think everything is going to work. last night i set each clutch into place on the flywheel, and i realized that they wouldnt move foreward at all. since they fit fine and will only be moving towards the transmission, i dont see any issues. but, i guess ill find out soon enough..
here are some pictures of what im doing, im sure this is confusing.
