a th-400 uses a lot more tq to turn just as a c-4 is easier than a c-6. I do not want anyhting electronic, period, hence the reason I am also going propane, and a HEI distributor
Edit; am not worried about the wiring, as far as the work, I am simplyfying the truck to make it a real off road vehicle with minimal electronics

none, its done with toggle switches, or a shifter from http://radesignsproducts.com/default.aspx
Really, All I need is the Shift lever controller from RADesigns and toggle switches. I don't need a new wire harness or TCM for an auto to swap in the AW4,.... in my AX15 Cherokee?
If so my Auto swap just got a whole lot easier.

The th400 has an electric kick down. The tf727 would have been found in a full size jeep. Can't say whether or not your 231 will bolt to it. A common swap in an AMC eagle (which has a tf998, light duty 3 speed auto) is a low range case, some have used the 242, and I believe the 249 is the other common swap. Novak would have a definite answer on the 231 attached to either or. The tf999 could also be found I believe in cj7s.

The 727 is a very compact tranny, shorter than a th350, as are the 998 and 999.

If you were to look at your case, on the driver side, right before where the shape of the pan starts it's 45 degree (or so) angle towards the tail shaft, there is an electrical plug. You may not see it from below, but if it's a 400 it's there.

negative... my 70 impala did not have electronic kick down either it was cable 400/th400... my 72 chevy pickup had the 350/th350 which was cable... i pulled them both and installed them both myself... maybe some do? but not ALL... 700r4 started all the electronic stuff... but even it can be bypassed...
