Is the tank used? You can't hardly buy a Jerry can for $30 anymore.

tank is used from a buggy that was built and then is now being parted out. it has been used for 2 tanks of fuel-bad life choices lol
This is one of the last things he has to get rid of including some other randoms that i am snagging up from him.

Next thread starts with constant fuel smell turned on interior ......boom....Not very wise to have 20 gallons of fuel inside a closed area with you. Ya gotta use bathroom some time just fill up them.

Your best bet would be to scratch the idea of mounting it inside for all the obvious reasons, safety, cost if done properly then think of a roll over what happens. Some of my cars in the past had to have their fuel cells mounted inside because I had nowhere else to put them but only as a last resort roll over's and severe blown engine's from N2o.

If you have to have an extra tank consider having one custom built with baffles and foam. Then make it the same height as your roof rack and the size you need for what amount of fuel that you need to carry. Then you can just gravity feed it to your main tank watching the gauge as you do, transfer it to main tank ASAP just to be safe.

I would not carry much fuel in it until your ready to take off on the trails.

yes you can find cheaper jerry cans cause I have some but don’t get any of the cheap ones cause they are peices of crap made from crappy sheet metal and sometimes aren’t even welded just crimped and they will leak everywhere.

What you are talking about doing is illegal in almost every state.

Check your state laws to know what you can and can't do, then consider your options.

Generally, you can not pump from 1 tank to the other or gravity drain from 1 to the other due to the possibility of overfilling.

All dual tanks simply switch the suction from 1 tank to the other. When I added an aux tank to my dually, it plumbed in with a transfer switch, so the tank the engine was sucking from changed, no pumping tank to tank was involved.

Unless you plan on driving in country where gas stations are hard to find, you should shoot for about a 15 to 1 fuel tank to bladder ratio plus an extra gallon or so of fuel as a safety factor. If you drink a lot of energy drinks or travel with females/small children you may want to adjust that slightly to allow for more frequent stops. Going by my math a stock fuel tank is plenty for most people traveling in a Cherokee. LOL

But since you asked...yes. A simple electric fuel pump with a switch to transfer fuel from one tank to the other will work just fine. A nipple added to the filler neck would work or POSSIBLY a "T" in the vent line as long as you could guarantee that the fuel went into the tank and not out the vent line. You will however have to deal with all the issues mentioned above in regards to mounting a tank inside the vehicle.
