Default Aussie Locker re-install problems

Help me out here, I put a locker in the 8.8 in the back of my cherokee in the spring and it worked fine, but I had a bad seal so i pulled it out. It came out fine, I replaced the seals and wheel bearings so I wouldn't have to mess with it again for a while and now I can't get the cross shaft back through. I have taken this stupid thing back apart 4 times now and cannot get the cross shaft to go through. The problem is it is hitting the spacers that rest between the axleshaft and cross pin. I checked to make sure the spacers were in there right, and pulled out on the axleshafts. and tried to pry on the spacers to push them in more, but no luck. Why the hell can't I get this thing back in when it came out fine?

Still hoping someone has ideas. I got a new cross shaft. I took it back out and reinstalled, but still can't get the cross shaft in. It fits fine between the spacers when not going through the carrier, why won't the locker line up when it worked fine before?

Had the same problem when putting mine in for the first time, I ended up having to use a pick to push the spacers closer to the c-clip. After I did that it went in fairly easily.
