Anyone Used POR 15?
Hey CF. I have some surface rust on my '98 XJ. Passenger floor pan, undercarriage and whatnot. Non of it is through. I'm looking for some information, details on previous experiences and advice on POR 15. A friend told me about it. I'm curious as if it's worth the $$$. Thanks & KCCO

yup. great stuff, brushes on really really smooth. and it works. but last I checked it's not UV resistant and definitely will scrape off if it's hit by rocks etc. using it to cover undercarriage rust is it's intended purpose. just brush the rust very clean and paint an even coat on there.
I'd use it again

Well... I think the application is a little bit more extensive. At least that's what their website shows. I could go over the POR 15 with some bed liner or undercarriage coating.

Excellent product, I have used it for years. I use their chassis coat on my frames after I por-15 them, you wouldn't want to bed line over it because you would have to scuff it up for it to adhere an that would open you up for potential rust.

last time I read the directions it said scrub the rusty areas and apply POR-15. I couldn't add more than 1 coat either. turns out POR-15 doesn't really stick to POR-15. but that was at least 3 years ago so maybe I should go refresh myself on the site

I have recently done my floor in my 98 XJ considered the POR-15 product but went with Rustbullet instead.
Much easier application process, am very happy with the outcome.
Just get rid of the loose rust and start painting, no "4 step" process

So would this stuff be good to use on small surface rust areas? I have a spot on my rocker and rear gate that's just surface right now

I've used it in the past with great success. I plan to use it on the rockers and lower portions of my doors and rear hatch on my current XJ, then use white Monstaliner over the top.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if I recall correctly the directions say you can paint over the top. Lightly rough the surface, clean and spray right on top. That's my plan at least.

So would this be a good kit to get?

I only have small spots I want to get before they get bad. I would get black top coat as well

For that price, I would get the starter kit. I also plan to lightly sand the surfaces before the POR-prep that they describe since some of the rust on mine can be removed with a scotch brite pad.
