I do not know how much this varies by maker. But I can say that I had a front D44 from a wagoneer D44 and a chevy D44 and in both cases, the knuckle was an issue. The 6 spindle studs are slightly rotated clockwise from the disc brake position, making it so that if you try to mount the caliper bracket to the knuckle, it does not properly clear the axle "C" and thus cannot be assembled as it sits. You can either get some knuckles for disc brake or do what I did...drill a set of alternate holes in the caliper bracket so that it is clocked back to a usable position.

I do not know if there was a difference in the spindle itself or not - I already had the disc brake stuff from the spindle out, so did not have to strip the drums off or try to reuse components.

The Mr. N article is a good read. easiest way to do it is find either ford/chevy/ dodge/scout D44 outers including the stub shafts and swapping everything over from the knuckles out. The cheap way is to use chevy, then ford. Beadvised the scout and dodge have special stub shafts (expensive to buy and no one will have a spare for you)

It all comes down to what bolt pattern you want as well. I went with 6 lug.. cause my 40 dollar waggy outers are 6 lug.. but you can go 5 or 8 as well... all depends on your money.
