amplifier doesnt work when engine is running

amplifier doesnt work when engine is running
the amplifier for my PA system only works when the engine isnt on, any ideas of why this happens?

i have a cheap walmart speaker amp hooked up to a CB radio and a PA horn and the PA system works perfectly if the engine isnt running but once i start the engine the PA doesnt work anymore. it worked fine until i installed the amp. also the ON light on the amp is still on when the engines running

no this amp is different it has a switch on it to turn it on and off and just has a positive and negative wires coming out of it. i know what you are talking about though because i have a subwoofer with an amp also hooked up but that works fine

Being that i'm not there to see what the layout looks like i really can not offer much help. So the only way your amp can power on is to hit the switch? And the only way to power off is also on the switch?
Other question is this. How are you sendind the sound over? Rca, speaker wire, coax?
Sounds like to me maybe one of your devices is going into protect mode due to the loss off volts when starting your rig.
May want to power you amp with a different battery and the see what happens when you start your rig.
Audio equipment can be a pain to figure out but you need to pinpoint which device is causing your problem. I'm not no audio expert at all but i have been thru alot of trouble shooting with mine and other people.
