Has anyone came up with a idea on how to keep mud dirt and water out of your alternator. This is my 3rd one and its getting expensive lol. i heard of getting a heat gun and some clear material from home depot and forming it to the front and bottom of your alternator but do yall have any pictures of what yall have done or any ieas on what i should do

 

Get them rebuilt instead of buying new or refurbed ones. 40 bucks to have rebuilt instead of 240 for new.

 

Do you have skid plates? Some armor will help keep water and mud from getting up that high in the engine bay. Otherwise, slow down when you hit the puddles!

Also heard of a guy making a tupperware box over his... just took the lid off when normal driving.. I cant remeber what he did about the belt and stuff though...

you can also move your alternator somewhere else to make it more waterproof.. you would have to find one of the builds that did that but it is an option...

Have read some about people trying to get humvee alts and stuff but they are not "water proof" either... if you have alot of cash, there are some marine alts (for boats and stuff) that are sealed, but might be hard to find a place to mount it/one the right voltage...

other than that, its buy rebuilt ones (or get a new one with a life-time warrenty like at autozone) there is no waterproof one in the jeep market that I have seen...

 

I got a lifetime warranty one at oreilly. I've returned two after submersion... don't tell. Anyhow I've heard rumor that there's a way to swap the alternator to the top and the ac to the bottom.

its not that i hit the holes hard but its that there deep. I want to go to a high amp alternator for all my lights and accecories but im not gonna spend the extra money if i have to get it rebuilt everytime i play haha but i think the cherokee "up country" comes with skid plate that i can get from the local junk yard

 

you can use a YJ bracket with light modification to raise the alternator ~5" from where it sits now

yes it does. Its not a custom belt though. There is a writeup somewhere that covers the YJ bracket
