Has anyone ever messed with something like these? My new 2000 XJ sport has the common problem of only one hood latch holding and having the cockeyed hood annoys me and concerns me.

I have greased the latches and basically the whole system to no avail. I am afraid of messing with it too much and ending up with the fully broken having to disassemble the front end situation. I figure that if I was to use something like I found in the link I could write off this known issue forever.

You will have to take off the header panel, and cut holes in your hood to install those.

It would be easier to figure out why the latches are binding and fix the problem.
You might have to remove it then soak it in degreaser over night.
After that run through it with a few different brushes to clean it all out, then use some lithium grease or thick oil.
I don't think adding grease and stabbing it with a screwdriver is going to work.

Craig, thanks for the reply,

I figured that I may have to pull the header panel for this, which I wouldn't mind, seeing as I will be installing new headlights and I wanted to spray the header panel in black bedliner anyway. At least I can do all of this stuff in the same project then.

I am kind of thinking this would be the perfect fix to never have to worry about this common issue again. My truck definitely is not a show truck thanks to the 200k miles, and I am not super worried about cutting the hood (I plan on doing this for vents at some point anyway (though obviously in a different place.

I have just never messed with hood pins or latches like these aftermarket ones, seems like it would be pretty straight forward though. (of course it always seems that way before you start trying to pull rusted old bolts lol)
