Default Aftermarket Headers for 94 XJ Sport

Ok guys. Ive seen some people with aftermarket headers on their XJ 4.0s, and Im wondering the general opinion. Ive even seen someone put Mustang headers on theirs. Any links for these modifications or suggestions/ideas are appreciated.

I paid $140 shipped for mine. Cost doesn't always equal quality. It has been on over a year & I'm very happy with it.

Because the APN collector is 2 1/4" O.D and the Banks has 2.5".

The quality and warranty alone should answer that, unless you go custom and if so then you can expect what the builders rep is based on.

On some of my "Door Slammer" race cars I have paid well over $5k for a set coated, custom made.

If you want to spend $1k for an extra 1hp , that's fine with me. It's an xj. Not a competition race car, but whatever floats your boat.

LOL 1hp gain! If you only gain 1 RWHP from putting in a new exhaust and opening up the intake, you're doing it wrong.

You have dyno results of the banks header vs apn? Or any dyno results at all? It's not much power without other mods.

No, but I did say you need to open up the intake. I think that's the issue: People don't know how to build up an engine correctly. You can't upgrade JUST the headers and expect a performance increase. An engine is an air pump. Intake and exhaust need to be balanced to realize any real gains. A hi-flowing, well-tuned exhaust doesn't help anything if the intake is built with a garden hose and the ports/bowls on the head haven't been opened, or at least cleaned, up.

What I can tell you is that some headers are going to do a much better job than others, regardless of what's going on with the rest of the engine. It's a matter of opening up the intake and head to realize the full potential of a good exhaust.
