I have been bouncing ideas all around my head. Think I am going to 4:10s and 31x10.5s. My question is do I need a new carrier for the c8.25? Seems some places I have looked that the carriers will work with 3:55s or 4:10s. But others it looks like I need new carriers also. I plan on buying new gears and bearings and all the goodies, but I just hate having to buy new carriers just yet.So I am trying to find used ones. Any help of thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

There is no carrier break on the 8.25 so the carrier will work. The Dana 30 front does have a carrier break at so you will need to get a carrier for a 3.73 and lower gear ratio to run 4.10s.

Thanks for the info. That is what I thought. Not doing a swap until warmer weather but wanted to get things together.

The point at which a different carrier is needed is referred to as a “Carrier Break”.

carrier break is what I could not think of.
But seriously some carriers will work with almost all gear sets, while others only fit say 3:55 and down. Down in numbers. So to get 4:10 gears i need a new carrier that will take 3:73s and up. Up in numbers that is.
