Default 99 XJ - Crown HD Leafs/Coils - What tires?

I ordered Crown HD leafs and Coils (w/ Bilstien shocks) and now I need tires

I know the Crown HD stuff is standard stuff up until 96... but for the 97+'s it's supposed to be about a 2" lift

Can I fit 30x9.5 for this setup?

I most likely will stick with stock steel wheels but if I get new wheels, what width and backspacing should I consider?

Most here who run that suspension go with a 235 tire. Some say they have run 30's with no issues. A lot depends on how the vehicle is used. Where you'll probaby run into a problem is with stock offset rims your tires will hit the lower control arms in a tight turn. With a 2" lift I'm running 235's on 15x7 rims with 4.25" backspace and have had no problems at all.

That'll fill the wheel wells nicely! Go for it. If fuel mileage and acceleration is more important to you than tire clearance, a 235/75r15 is a slightly smaller option.

I am using these stock steel wheels. Honestly not sure of the backspacing...

Exact OEM wheels that were on my '96. Backspace is 5.5". The higher that number the closer to the control arms. My 235's were 28.9" tall and 9.3" wide.

I really like these wheels, but I dont want any rubbing... I am not opposed to getting new wheels with better backspacing. What should I look for if I got 30"s?

A 15x7 with 4.25" b/s would put your 9.5" tires a bit outside the flares. And of course 4" would be a bit more. IF you plan on modifying the suspension later on and going with 31's you'd want 15x8's. Here's 235's on your rims and stock suspension.

And on 15x7 4.25" b/s with 2" lift

Crown HD Springs and Coils installed. They barely made a difference in ride height which I was definitely surprised by. The ride is much much better, especially with Bilstien shocks. I ordered 2" shackles that will be installed tonight and hopefully that will level it out.

BEFORE

AFTER

Note... rear tires are smaller, dont know why the PO did that but I have tires on order.

Something doesn't seem right. Are your Crown leaf springs arched like the ones in my bottom pic? I'm on stock length shackles. Are these the ones you bought?

I didnt see those on Quadratec but now I do, thats pretty disappointment. I may order those and try to sell these, good springs but not what I wanted. Here is the ride height after the shackles...

New tires going on today, 235/75 Grabber AT/X. Ill post another picture after that because this picture shows it with a 225/75 rear and 235/75

With the tires now installed it is sitting much better, although I do still want the next heaviest springs.

Looking better. Unless you have a particular reason for wanting heavier duty springs you could get a set of IRO HD shackles and go up another 3/4".

Love my Crowns. This is the 3rd Jeep I've used them on along with the MOOG coils, along with this 95 I've used them on a 00, and a 97. I run 235s and like how well they fill out the wheel wells.
