Default 96 vs 97 parts?

im converting my 97 cherokee sport 2wd to a 4 and have a spare 96 for parts will the tranny axles and drive shafts all work from the year change?

yeah, but you might need to change a harness connector on the trans

ok thats not a big deal and me and a friend were talking yesterday about this are the grand cherokee axles transmission or drive shafts different then the cherokee?

well GC's came with coils in the rear and depends what transmission it has

so can you use grand cherokee axles on a reglar cherokee? not trying to sound stupid im just not sure

front yes, rear not really unless you do custom fab to make it fit.

The transmission isn't a AW4 so it'd would be a pain to swap over and the transfer case isn't the 231. It's either the 242 or dreadful 249.

Find a XJ to take parts from, not a ZJ.

Most ZJ's have a low pinion in them. I wouldn't go from HP to LP. IMO

That will work fine. Body parts wont fit your 97, and the TCU from your 97 won't work with the 96 trans. Otherwise most everything else is direct swap.

thats not the 96 thats a 97 for sale near me so it should be a direct match up right?

Thats a perfect donor, depending on tcase and rear axle. I did my 4x4 conversion with less lol
