I purchased my Laredo in July but joined the site about a month before. This is the third Cherokee I purchased but the first two were for my daughter and this one was going to be mine
.
A little background first.
The Jeep will be more of a toy (read mall crawler) than a serious off road machine with the exception of hunting and camping from time to time. Thanks to the members on CF, the collective depth of knowledge and the willingness to share, it helped me with what to purchase, what not to purchase and who to purchase it from. From the forum I bought a CB antennae mount and a sub woofer enclosure, and someone shared a discount code for $50.00 off parts from Advance Auto (The AC system craped out right after purchasing it). Through external vendors I purchased: a roof rack, custom front and rear bumpers, swing arm for the spare tire, 4 Hella lights for the bumper, body armor for the rear lights, replacement LED lights for the rear, and now this leads me to the next question.
Which lift kit do I get? Please remember this is my first foray into the off road world and on other post this question turns into a passionate and sometimes spirited debate. Hopefully the members can help a yet another noob with this question. BTW the tires will be a 30 x 9.5x15 mounted on Dick Cepek rims
First question:
3” VS 4.5” lift. From what I read the general consensus is that over time everyone that starts with a 3” lift transitions to a taller lift. I do not NEED a 4.5” lift and the difference in cost between the two is pretty steep. What benefits if any is gained with a 4.5” lift instead of a 3”?
2nd question:
What is the benefit of new leafs VS AAL? Currently the distance from center of hub to bottom of fender well is 17” Will the new leafs help the ride and is this impacted more with the taller the lift?
3rd question:
Shocks – which ones should I get? Many suggest to upgrade but to which one?
4th question
What does a SYE do and at what point would I need one?
5th question:
How do I avoid “death wobble”
6th question:
What am I forgetting to ask?
I will have to pay someone to install the kit as I am not mechanically inclined nor do I have a place to put it on. Hopefully the lengthy post did not lose anyone but I wanted to be as specific as possible. Thanks in advance for your assistance! If anyone is close by feel free to stop by and help me install the kit. I'll supply the frosty beverages
Before anyone says
I want to post pictures of the Jeep as it is going together and not just a room full of parts
