So this is my first xj and I know very little. Im planning on building a tranny and rear end for it but I have no idea whats best to use or what is allready in the jeep. Also I think my Rpm gauge is off because at like 55-60 it says im only at 1500 Rpm. Also I just had my brother put in the fuel pump and my gas gauge reads 3/4s when it is full. I have a lot of confusing questions on this thing. Any tips or knowledge will help

If you want to ride it real hard, and then drive it to work on monday you might as well jack it up and start replacing everything that's either made of metal, or is dirty...
Seriously though,I've seen cherokee owners TRY to destroy their rigs and they keep on going; then I've seen guys try to be careful with them and have things break (like the dana35 you have in the rear). It all depends on how big of a tire, how heavy your right foot is, what kind of terrain, & on, & on, & on...
It's going to be pretty tough to give any advise on what to do or where to start until you have an idea of where you want to end up.

For now, just focus on reliability. Do all the basic maintenance stuff, Google everything on your year and trim, use the search function on here...then make it into a weapon of grass destruction.

I wana put a ford nine inch in the rear but was told you have to put different gears in tranny? Im going to try to find a junk tranny and rebuild it since kits aren't bad. Any info?

Dont mess with the 9 inch its strong but a pain at times ford 8.8 is common swap for the xj if you plan on lift of tires gear it before you put it in 8.8 came with alot of gear options and lsd might find you a good one in te junk yard and newer ones have disc brake you the search box in top right corner it will be you new best friend

Nothings wrong with the tranny. Well kind of. I can just feel the fact it needs gone through. So I figured misewell build a performance tranny and differ for it. It doesn't cost that much. Just need to know what type of gears and **** I should go with. Trannys are a big part of off-road. Im not worried about power aspect, have plenty. Just want to have a smooth agilic jeep ya know

Its like dating a girl!
First get to know your jeep.
Change diff fluid, trans fluid, t case, oil, radiator, tune up, possibly brakes?, ect...
Then once that is done do your upgrades.
Power options:
injectors.
2000+ manifold.
exhaust.
air filter.
Lift options:
You can do a 3 inch rc lift and 31/10.50/R15 tires and have fun.
You can do a 4.5 inch lift and 33s.
You can do a 6.5 inch and 35s
Or you can..............................Do a 4.5 inch long arm lift, cut/trim your fenders, put 35/12.50/R15 mud tires, dana 30 with upgraded axle shafts/4:56 gears, arb locker, dana 44 with 4:56 gears and arb locker, front winch bumper, with a stroker motor and a well built t case, dont forget the twin stick t case......
but i am pretty sure once u read up you will figure were your jeep will end up going.
man more options also you can do rockwells/dana 60s/ chevy 350 motor/ you could even put a 20 inch lift on 56 inch tractor tires with a 12 valve cummins that has stacks coming out the back hatch
