Hmmm, depends on what size tires you wanna run. If you're going 35+ some chromoly axle shafts would be good. Do you have the 27 spline or 29 8.25?

OK, the 1989 Cherokee didn't come with the Chrysler 8.25 stock so if he truly has the 8.25 in a 1989 it could be from a 1991-1996 which is the 27 spline or the 1997-2001 which is a 29 spline.
If you still have the vacuum disconnect front, I would change the axle, or do a block off plate, and upgrade the front shafts. If the rear was a 27 spline axle, I would install 1541H 29 spline shafts and when you do the gear change go to a full case locker in the rear unless you can find a JY 29 spline carrier most of the websites want 149-189 just for a new carrier.

You can always pull the diff cover and count the splines, because unless you know what year the 8.25 is from you don't know the spline count. If you do end up changing shafts in the 8.25 your Aussie locker and differential carrier will not fit, you will need to change the carrier and the locker.
