Default 8.8 rear end swap

I am planning to do a swap on my 89. I have found a complete assembly locally that is a complete rear end with the disc brakes. My question is what length rear end do I need for the xj?

Stock is close to 60.5" WMS-WMS. (Wheel mount surface). I THINK the 8.8 out of an Explorer is a little narrower (1.5") but works fine. 8.8 out of expedition is around 64"-

Ok the one I found is out of an explorer and is 60" so sounds like I can use this one.

Hold on now-all Explorer 8.8's weren't created equal. What is the ID# of the 8.8 you're looking at? You're just planning on regearing the front as well?

Yes I plan on re gearing the front. The 8.8 is a 31 spline 3.73 posi complete with the brakes and brake cables.

Excellent, you should be all set then, that axle will be the right length- its about 5/8"-3/4" shorter per side than an XJ axle IIRC.
