8.25 rear axle, what u joint?
My jeep is a 1989 Cherokee Laredo, 6.5 lift, sye, 31 inch tires.
I have a 8.25 rear end under my cherokee from a 1996 cheroke at the junk yard.
I have a 96 grand cherokee 6 cyl front driveshaft that I am using as a rear driveshaft in my cherokee.
My issue is I cannot find a replacement U joint that will fit the 8.25 axle.
The part they say at autozone (1-0153DG) is the right one, fits the driveshaft, but is too small for the 8.25 yoke by a few millimeters. Once bolted in, I can wiggle the driveshaft back and forth as there is play.
Do I need some kind of combo u joint? Its like the side for the 8.25 axle needs to be slightly bigger?
Any advice is appreciated.

I'd say that the tabs on the sides of your yoke is worn or bent.
Try another yoke.
Correct joint - Precision #369
That's the same as the number you had.

did your rear end come from a cherokee with abs? if so then it'd be a spicer 1330 u-joint that was used. what you'd need is a 1330/1310 u joint.... try a search and you'll come up with a part number for one at napa.

Perhaps he stumbled on an extremely rare configuration?

That wouldn't be necessary. A stock shaft would work just fine...
I'm still betting on a worn yoke.
OP, you ever going to respond?

The rear 8.25 axle was pulled from a 96 cherokee, I don't think it had ABS.
So i got a 1310 to 1330 conversion u joint last night and it ended up being too large. Very strange...
What other info can I provide that might help?
Here are some photos:
Yellow cap is what autozone says should fit.
Blut is the 1310 to 1330 u joint that is too big.

you need a new yoke. both of the little "keepers" are worn just enough.
could be a result of rust, an improperly seated u joint, a broken u joint somewhere down the line, loosened up strap bolts, or it just plain wore down over the years.
