I looked up ford 700 injectors in xj's and it appears the consensus is those injectors require the fuel pressure regulator to be swapped out with a high pressure fuel regulator. where does one even get one of these? how hard is it to swap fuel pressure regulators?

I'm thinking if problems persist it may be easier to just actually get 703's as I originally intended.

Why not just send bad injector back and get replaced ?

It also wouldn't hurt to run some seafoam in the gas tank.

I'll have to look into the ford plug issues mentioned above. that's pretty disappointing if true. if the issues keep up maybe ill be buying another set but let's hope she keeps running smoothly.
Even though the plug fits tight, you still may have a bad connection or frayed conductor underneath the insulation. With the vehicle running, gently wiggle each connector and gently pull/push each wire to see if it causes poor running or a miss. There might of been oxidization on the injector terminals that unplugging and plugging the connectors back in restored electrical continuity as well.

it's been about 6 months since i bought them. I can't imagine the guy i bought them from still honoring the warranty he included but it is worth a try.

I'll give the wiggling a try. See if it starts acting up.

In regards to Seafoam, I just bought a can. Going to put it in the tank next time I fuel up. Will it produce a ton of smoke if I use the whole can? How long does all that smoke last? I've never used Seafoam before :x

Seafoam in the gas tank isn't what causes all the smoke. That's caused from running it through your vacuum line (the one on the brake booster is the best one to use). It's then that you get A LOT of smoke. You're supposed to keep it revved until the smoke clears so there should be very little if any when you first go driving after using it.

As for the injectors, if she's running smooth now, let her be. A little Seafoam isn't going to hurt it. Sounds like the one was just a little clogged up honestly and causing an intermittent spray.

Crap, if thats the case then I'll probably have issues with mine when I finally install them. They've been sitting in the box they shipped in since I got them 10 months ago..heck i dont even know if I have all six LOL. Though when shipped I was told they were cleaned and flow tested, so I suppose its possible there isn't any left over fuel to varnish.

replace the o-rings and soak them in seafoam for a day or two before installing them. Should be good.

Is refurbished the way to go?

If so, is there a particular refurb center that is reputable? Recommendations?

I have a 2000 XJ. I'm going for 784's as I was already planning on changing all connectors. May as well go EV6.

Also, I've changed several sensors and made various other repairs. Will resetting the ECU make a difference with those swaps, being as many of the sensors communicate with the ECU, dictating things like fuel/air mixture and idle?

I don't remember who I got my 784's from on here, but it was super cheap and quick. Last I checked he isn't doing it anymore anyway.

I just did the 703 swap. The engine will run rough like that for the next 50 warm up cycles. The computer needs to learn the trim levels of the new injectors. Fuel pressure regulator is super easy to change out.
