Default 500's into HighBeams, need DIODE? HELP

Im wiring up some hella 500s to come on with the high beams and also separately with another switch. I just attached a wire from the high beam wire to the yellow control wire on the relay and it works fine. But I read that it can blow a fuse or wreck something if you turn the 500s on with a separate switch with the power now running to the headlights, therefore a diode is needed? I know enough to wire switches and lights but Im lost on this diode issue. Can anyone help??

Here's a tid bit of reading info for you as I ran into a similar issue, my lighting system is a little more complex than one set of lights and one switch though as you'll see. You can pull a some good info out of this thread.

If you have some questions on specifics feel free to ask and I'll try to dig out the info from my experience...it's been a while since I've had my hands in it though due to the fact I did it right on my first try lol.

Hope this at least gets you started!

and now i am running into a problem where they want to come on with the daytime running lights. I'm right at the drivers headlight. there are 2 red wires that are getting power with the daytime running lights and also with high beams. a purple and black wire. I'm not sure what to do, is there a way to disable the running lights?

My advice is read read read, then ask questions. Understand all the components and what they do before wiring.

Bad wiring=fires lol.

so i believe i have a handle on how to run it with another relay. but i am still not sure where to tap into the high beams being as the wires i picked at the headlight seem to be for the daytime lights also. where did you tap your high beams?
