I have a 2001 Cherokee Sport that has all original equip. I'm looking to,( shall we say), beef it up a little bit. I would like to lift it 3" and maybe add lockers or something to make it a little less squirrley (spelling?) in the snow. 100 lbs. of sand in the back doesn't make it. I have a Mountaineer with all wheel drive and it works great. I don't really do any serious off roading but I would like to hold my own in sand dunes and snow. (Michigan) Any thoughts?

I know what you mean, i live in Minnesota and have a 96 Cherokee Sport.
I think it is too light. Or too narrow. I put 6 sand bags "65# each" and all i did was bottom out. I put an add a leaf on the back so it could handle the weight. Then there was a rake, the back was up in the air so i put a couple 2 inck spacers above my springs. Now it sits right but the vibration is there so i put the 1 inch transfer drop spacers on. Now the shocks "bottom up" so my shocks are on the way. I did this to a Bronco before, once you start you cant stop.
But now winter is over and i have all summer to get my XJ ready for the snow. I think im going to get wheel spacers to make it wider.
