$400 to install a Rough Country lift kit?
Hi all,
I recently injured my right hand which has left me unable to install this 3" Rough Country Series 2 full leaf pack kit. This local shop quoted me $400 to install the kit. Is that a reasonable price? I know that people installing the kits themselves at home are putting in almost 6-8 hours of work and also getting the joy of dealing with the rear shock mounts.. This shop also gives a lifetime warranty with all their services and the sand rails they were working on looked legit. I'm sure I could find a different place and save myself 30-40 bucks but I feel this place is worth the premium. Thoughts?

Honestly, yes, I think thats fair! I did my own, by myself. It took me 5 days with all the problems I had (I did a AAL/bastard pack hybrid, so that added about two days to it. Either way, I must have bought 200-300 in extra tools, and parts that broke. It's way worth it to me at that price man. I'd never do it again on a DD.

Id say that's what I would charge. Im not a shop but I do plenty of side work and for the headaches and tools it can take I think that's fair especially with the guarantee

Should have asked where youre from, that has a lot to do with it too. Here in OH we get the real rust buckets, out west where you only red about seized bolts and what not it should be a little cheaper IMO.
You didnt say what kit you got with what parts and upgrades. I can tell you I charge more then that to do lifts, and I am not a shop. I just did a 2012 JK Rubicon 4dr lift and I charged 1000. Last xj I did I charged 750 for a 4.5 RC with leaf springs. I did a budget boost on a tj and I only charged 300 for that. All the above prices were roughly 50% of what a traditional shop quoted them.
I always guarantee my work too, I dont guarantee parts. The only thing my labor guarantee covers.. is the parts were installed according to the manufacturers recommendations and everything was/is tight when it leaves my garage. Also means everything was loc-tighted, and you will hate me when you go to change anything I installed

It's a good price. I paid 650$ to install mine. It took 10 hours to do. Rust = fun times
This was my only car so I needed this to be done quick.

I'm in Orange County, CA. The Jeep has spent all it's years here in CA with no rust anywhere. Well, except for everything involving the cooling system which I overhauled when I got the Jeep a few months ago. I just realized I forgot to tell them about the new steering stabilizer..

I don't know it took me 3 days to do mine and that was working for only 2 or so hours a day. So that was about 6 hours of work. So that's what 50 bucks an hour or so right? Doesn't seem to unfair to me.
