Default 33x1050/15 or 285/75/16?

Trying to plan out my build for a 2000 XJ and just looking for opinions and insight.

I'll have a 6" LA kit and I'm stuck between using 31x10.50s on stock Ecco wheels or a 285/75 on 16" Rubicon wheels. I'm set on using either of these wheels.

Anyone have opinions on either set-up? From what I read, you have to use spacers on the Rubis no matter what the tire.

This is my DD which I will wheel about once a month. Thanks!

I'd vote for the 285/75/16 on Rubi rims since that is what I have on my XJ, but with an RE 3.5". I run no spacer on the Rubis, and it is also my daily driver:

That looks real good! Do you have any rubbing issues at full lock? I'm sure they get stuffed at flex, but on flat street?

I am rocking 285/75/16 in Cragar Soft 8s (actual measurements ended up at 33 1/4" x 11 1/4")

I would totally rock the rubis

I am on a little over 4.5" lift

No rub at full lock on the street. Off road there is rubbing without front sway bar, so I just leave it on.

Aero, how's your power after you went to 285/75?

Does it feel like you need to upgrade your gears? Or is it manageable?

It is manageable since I live in Miami which is all flat, but I do drive around town in 3rd and then on the highway after 55 MPH I pop it into OD so it doesn't hunt around gears.

Power wise, it still has good acceleration and I can do a burnout, but eventually gears would be nice, especially if not living in flat land.

Why are you going with a taller, heavier tire on the 16 inch rim than what you are putting on the 15 inch rim? A 265/75r15 is almost the same size as the 31 x10.5 r 15.
Anyway I would go with the 31 x 10.5 r15, you can get this in a C rated tire which is all you need for a light weight rig like the Cherokee, all the 285/75r16s I've seen are E rated tires which is way more than what is needed for the Cherokee.

I've had moabs, the only downside is that the tires in a 16" rim are so much more expensive, also I got rid of mine because the lug nut wollowed out the hole, making my rim fall off the hub, plus they are heavy as...you know lol. My 33x12x15 steelies are lighter than my 295/75/16 mobs...crazy!

Kinda a dead thread but anyone else running this setup ? Thinking of 16" alloys and some duratracs to avoid a 12" wide on street and to modernize the look with a slightly bigger wheel
