Default 33s or 35s

Heres the skinny,

I have a 00 xj w 8.25 rear 30 up front. Re trac bar, and a few others, but changing over to wj steering sooner or later.

I have 31s on 4'' right now and they have been great. Time for new tires. . .Going bigger because why not. . .right?

Whats everyones take on 33s vs 35s on my current setup. Will go to wj steering but not tomorrow or anything. Looking at mt/r, duratracs, or maybe replace my general at2s for some big boys. . .

I almost don't have fenders left on the front. There is about an inch to the back. Half on the front and a couple on inches left on the top. On 35s with 4in. I need to cut more as they still rub the back of the fenders at almost full lock. Also cut and folded the seam inside the fender well and don't have plastic liner anymore. You'll kill your clutch if you don't gear it. If you have an auto it will probably kill that too.

take it slow. go with 33's. stepping up a tire size every year or so is a natrual progression unless you're doing a chit load of mods all at once. 35's really require a lot mroe than people put into their rigs. you REALLY need gears. 4.56 or 4.88. you should really include frame plates, heavy duty steering, and a track bar brace. after all those upgrades, and lockers if you STILL feel the need for bigger tires that's when you get them

over sized tires are one of the last things I consider as a necessary upgrade/modification. 33's will cut it. start upgrading everything else around them and then finally step up to a 35. I've seen plenty of guys follow me around on 33's and 32's to places I never guessed they could go.

there's nothing wrong with starting small. I usually trade/ sell a set of tires once a year just to try something different or a different size to match the various other upgrades I got that year. 1 tons eh? have you ever done serious rock crawling or wheeling? the 1 tons can be a tough beast to wrestle. it's a huge amount of work. If you're not heavily experienced in fabrication or wheeling I would stick with the 30/8.25 until they have nothing left to give. then figure something else out

Yeah thats the long term. . .are they that much worse on crawling? I live at 10,500ft in the rockies with some serious wheeling. . .my gears have more to offer than my transfer of power Il tell ya that.

I havent found much the 30 and 8.25 wont handle. Just wanting to go to 35s or 37s eventually, and regear. . .might az well do the 1 tons or 3/4 tons?

just build up your stock axles to the max and run 35's for awhile. 80% of guys who go to that setup can make it last pretty much forever for their style and needs. if you run your jeep hard for a year on 30/8.25 and 35's and it doesn't work out then figure something else out at that point. walk before you run. I don't see someone just diving into a 1 ton setup as being very wise. they're big wide heavy axles that require a big chunk of work to put under a cherokee. you can't know what sort of setup you need until you get done trashing a couple D30's first

you've been running 31's for 4 years? if that's the rate you're going you should probably start thinking about 1 tons in the next 8 years lol. yeah you'll be totally fine on 33's

Lol yeah. Got other priorities. Wish I could afford as much time and money that I want to put into it. Ran 255s for two years and 31s for two years. Used to have 35s on my 95.
