Thanks guys, well my "real world" experience tells me 4:56 is the better choice. I doubt I will go w/33s. I want to keep the jeep pretty streetable, and 31s/32s is it.
Like I said, my xj on 4:10s was terrible. My last zj had 35s and 4:56 gears w/a V8. Had good power, but I got at best 270 miles per 20 gallons of gas = 13.5 mpg about 30 city/70 hwy.
After you add the bigger tires, armor, recovery, and gear, it's just hard to believe you will still get stock mileage and power by gearing by what the numbers recommend.

I have 31's and 4.56s with the AW4. I love it and drive my jeep 45 miles to work on the highway. At 70 I'm reving about 2500-2600 (right in the powerband of the 4.0). Best of all.. I'm ready to throw some 33's on whenever I get a good deal. Do it right the first time if you are going to regear and skip 4.10's altogether if you ever think you'll go bigger than 31's
what do you get for fuel economy? just curious cause im running 31s with 3 55s right now and i get about 10 mpg, they are heavy tires because they are load range E but i dont get good milage at all
